Kari Tikka, all-round musician, was born in Siilinjärvi, Finland, April 13th 1946. He has worked as an oboe player, conductor, composer, festival manager and music pedagogue. He studied with the famous Finnish composers Joonas Kokkonen and Einojuhani Rautavaara. He had a most intensive career as a conductor at the Finnish National Opera, from 1970 to 2011. Tikka has composed about two hundred songs, either for solo voice or for choir. He is also an avid opera composer, with his Frieda, Luther, The Wind Blows and Judit. A token of his versatile character as a composer are his chamber music and orchestral works.
