Stephen Walford was born in Southampton, England on 8th April 1974. He began his piano studies at the age of 6 and first performed in public at the age of 12. A year later, he became organist of Our Lady of the
Assumption Catholic Church, Hedge End, Southampton. After graduating from Bristol University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music he began teaching piano in 1995.

Alongside teaching commitments, he has performed in various concerts. Notable performances include a live radio broadcast of Rachmaninov’s 3rd piano concerto, Brahms 2nd piano concerto, the complete Chopin etudes
op 25, and sonatas by Liszt and Rachmaninov.

His compositional output includes various virtuoso transcriptions, some of which have been recorded and performed worldwide by the legendary pianist, Lang Lang. Among his original piano compositions include a
Sonata, Toccata, Nocturne, Scherzo and several Etudes. His works have been performed by pianists from Europe, Australia and the United States.

Alongside his compositional activities, Stephen Walford is also a respected author of Catholic theology. Pope Francis penned the Preface for his most recent book. He is married to Paula and has 5 children.
