Veikko Norontaus was born in Vyborg on March 9, 1930, graduated as a cantor organist from the Helsinki Music Institute in 1951 and from 1957 to 1993 held the position of cantor of the Pieksämäki Rural Church. He stimulated the community’s music life by teaching vocalists at the labor college and playing piano at the educator’s college.

The composition of Norontaus is varied. He has studied composition by listening and researching the works of other composers and experimenting with it himself. He says he is an eternal experimenter. In addition to singing music, he has composed orchestral works for various ensembles, choral works, arrangements, two operas, cantatas, a series of songs, several solo songs, liturgical music and entertainment music.
