Linjama, Jari (1981–)

Jari Linjama is a master of music and a piano tuner. For work, he works as a cantor in Orivesi parish. As a composer, Linjama feels that he is self-taught, even though he completed composition studies related to music studies under the guidance of Pasi Lyytikäinen and Adam Vilagi. However, the teachers of his own tonal language are in the history of music and in the old masters who have been teachers of other composers in the past. As a composer, Linjamaa has always been fascinated by harmonious beauty. The motto “as beautifully as possible” encourages exploring the sensitive tones of music. However, that motto gives room for other shades of music than just sensitivity; The search for a balance between the rugged and the beautiful manages to inspire.

Jari Linjama also wants to touch the listener as a poet. The subjects and descriptions of the poems arise from his own experiences and imagination. The same principle of “looking for the most beautiful possible” is also included when writing texts. It is related to a personal sense of aesthetics and can be seen in the choice of words and in the descriptions of the feelings and “scenes” of the poems. In choosing the details of the language, right down to the consonants and the colors of the vowels, Linjama’s interest in the Inari Sámi language has helped in a special way: “The Inari Sámi taught me to sing and write poems in Finnish,” he says.
