Isacsson, Fredrik (1883–1962)

Fredrik Donatus Isacsson (July 13, 1883 Vestanfjärd – August 6, 1962, Naantali countryside) was a Finnish composer and church musician, director musices.

Isacsson studied to be a cantor organist at the Turku Cantor and Organ School. From 1904 to 1905 he studied organ playing under Oskar Merikanto at the Helsinki College of Music. He was considered a “promising organ artist”. He gave his first concert in 1905. Isacsson avoided publicity and therefore his compositional production remained unknown outside Turku. He first performed his organ work in the Cathedral himself in Turku Cathedral, probably in October 1921.

Isacsson served as a teacher at the Turku Church Music College from 1909 to 1951 and as a director from 1928 to 1951, as an organist at the Turku Cathedral Parish from 1936 to 1953 and before that as a deputy from Oscar Pahlman in 1913–1935. He also worked as a music critic at Turku Sanomat. He also served as choir director. Isacsson was awarded the title of Director musices in 1929.
