Lauri Hämäläinen (August 10, 1832, Rautalampi – September 29, 1888, Helsinki) was a Finnish composer, organist, and piano tuner. Hämäläinen’s parents were Johan Gabriel Hämäläinen, a blacksmith from Sumiainen, and Anna Pynnönen. The family included ten children in addition to the parents. Hämäläinen studied at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm from 1860 to 1864, having previously served for some time in the Oulu Swedish Army Band. After completing his studies, he worked as a military conductor in Vyborg, as an organist in Viapori, and as a violinist in the Meissner Theater Orchestra. He was the organist of the Old Church in Helsinki from 1871 to 1888 and the organ teacher at the Helsinki School of Musicians and Organists from 1882 to 1888. Hämäläinen taught, among others, Oskar Merikanto.

Hämäläinen was married to Emma Fredrika Kekoni (d. 1931) from 1875. Their daughter Armi (1885–1979) married the composer, choirmaster and writer Heikki Klemetti in 1908. The family’s son Väinö Hämäläinen (1876–1940) was a painter, graphic artist and illustrator, and his son Olli Hämäläinen (1924–1984) was a jazz musician, conductor and production manager.
