Vesa Erkkilä is a cantor-organist by training and currently works as the cantor of Askola parish in Eastern Uusimaa. He has worked as a cantor before, e.g. In Helsinki, Kitee, and Tenerife. Vesa Erkkilä was born in 1956 in Lohtaja, known for e.g. Vattajanniemi and its church music festivals every summer. Erkkilä studied at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, where he graduated as a cantor organist in 1982.

Erkkilä’s compositional style has received a lot of praise, especially for the beautiful melody lines in harmony with the tasty chordal texture. In the 70s and 80s, he also made a lot of gospel music and performed actively, e.g. with opera singer Hannu Niemelä and in the Scopus gospel group founded by Juha Haapaniemi, where at that time also played e.g. clarinetist Kari Kriikku. Erkkilä has also worked as a recording and concert accompanist for many well-known singers.
